Get-Together Today
by Tim M.

Today's the big day... Can you believe it's been 10 years since we, the brave and final class of the century, threw our caps in the air and started our own adventures?

10 years! That's 122 months — 3712 days, give or take. Or, as I once read, we can think of this time in terms of weekends: it's been approximately 530 Saturdays since graduation. Can't get much more depressing than that!

But today, I'm excited to see old friends. Perhaps we'll see old teachers, too (if they can stand to attend one more reunion — I assume our favorite teachers were just as loved by those in the classes that came before us, thus they've been invited to a reunion every year since our graduation — so the question is, were we their favorites, or at least liked enough to be worth the effort this year).

I'm most excited about the new people we'll see: families. The families of my peers. Who they married, the children they have together. Some may be almost teenagers. Others are only weeks old.

And in the families filing out of SUVs, minivans and crew-cab trucks today, there will be much beauty. Not because we're doing our duty of filling the earth, but because we're perpetuating so much more than just life — we are (I hope) passing along our integrity, our passion, and our values.

This is a vital part of our legacy. I can't wait to meet them.
